The Morning After Overreactions

As we do every Saturday, it is time to irresponsibly overreact to what happened on Friday night. Some of these takes will age beautifully. Others may be completely dead by Monday.

That is why they are called overreactions.

Thomas County Central:

If you would like some free entertainment, go to the TalkthatTalk229 Facebook group and search the posts about Aidan McPherson from when it was announced he was transferring to TCC. The number of Yellow Jacket faithful who were offended, said he could come be the backup, and generally acted like they had no use for him is absolutely worth your time.

I feel pretty confident every single one of them is now thrilled he is wearing yellow and navy instead of lining up against them on Friday nights. Impressive win, and in a great spot to win the Region.

Lee County:

Win or lose, Coach always joins us on the Scoreboard Show, and we appreciate that. Once Lee County settled in during the second half, they finally started rolling a little bit, but it was simply too little, too late.

Big one against Coffee next week.

Gainesville:

Progress report from City Park: we are pleased to announce that, this week, we did not receive a single report of another alleged verbal altercation between members of the coaching staff and athletic leadership.

Apparently, everyone managed to make it through pregame without incident. That is a step in the right direction from both a professionalism and maturity standpoint in all phases. Kudos!

Maybe now we can stop lashing out at people when your feelings are hurt. Facts don't care about your feelings.

Also, a huge Homecoming win for Big Red. Roswell is up next.

Milton:

Didn’t have to freeze the Johns Creek kicker this year, so that is already progress. On to the next one.

Jackson County:

Sitting in Position A in Region 8-AAAAAA after a big win over Habersham Central. After the first quarter, it was complimentary football on full display. Offense, defense, and special teams all doing their part.

Hart County:

An imposing win over a Lumpkin County team that has given Hart fits in years past. It really does feel like a new day in Hartwell.

Stephens County:

The final six minutes of the second quarter decided the football game, and Stephens County absolutely dominated that stretch. Huge win for momentum as region play starts to crank up.

Morgan County:

Gritty win. Beating the Baptists after surviving a tough non-region schedule is exactly what the doctor ordered. Now just make sure everybody gets right with God tomorrow.

Valdosta:

Big win over a good Stockbridge team. Congratulations on starting the season 1-0.

Lowndes:

Still playing preseason games.

Buford:

A world where you can go 10-0 and somehow be punished for the strength of a region you had absolutely no control over being placed into is absurd. At some point, common sense has to enter the conversation.

Loganville:

Quietly becoming one of the most improved football teams in the state from last season to this one. Huge win over Walnut Grove.

KIPP Atlanta:

Entered as an 11-point underdog against Lovett. Won 34-0. At some point, we should probably have a serious conversation about how the point spreads generated by MaxPreps are a complete joke.

LaFayette:

5-0 for the first time in 40 years. Naturally, MaxPreps will probably pick them to lose every game the rest of the season because MaxPreps sucks.

Franklin County:

Take the points before halftime. I know you love Buck Sweep, but right now it's tipping your calls Run/Pass every time. I would look at letting those guys work some Inside Zone and Outside Zone.

Your quarterback is still dangerous. Give him some rhythm throws and let him get comfortable. Constantly rolling him out shrinks the field and makes life easier on the defense. There is a lot to like there. Just get back to being simple.

Dalton:

I am still not completely sure what happened immediately before overtime. What I do know is that running ISO with no timeouts remaining while having a chance to end the game in regulation is certainly a choice.

Rome:

Is burning.

Blessed Trinity:

Catholic-on-Catholic crime. But that was a huge win, and Coach Dudley has the Titans rolling.

West Forsyth:

Some people would like to argue that West got away with offensive pass interference on the game-winning play. Personally, I think the officials were simply afraid of facing the wrath of the West Forsyth Boys Basketball Twitter account afterward. Hell of a win, though, and exactly what West needed after a brutal non-region slate.

Carver-Columbus:

The defending state champions are now 1-5. Region play begins now, so maybe they get things turned around, but this is easily one of the more eyebrow-raising storylines of the season so far.

Final Note:

And once again, thank you to everyone who joined us Friday night for OVERTIME: The Scoreboard Show. What started as an idea has quickly become the No. 1 high school football scoreboard show in the Southeast, and that only happens because coaches, players, parents, and football fans continue to show up every Friday night.
