The Vent | Week 5 Overreactions

As we do every weekend, we have the overreaction to the games played on Friday.

Normally, it is The Morning After, but I wanted to make sure I got the chance to write about Coach Brian Allison’s legacy, so this took a back seat.

Remember, these are overreactions for a reason.

Parkview / West Forsyth

Big win for Parkview and Coach Adam Clack to move to 3-2 on the season.

Both teams move into region play this upcoming week, and I would expect West Forsyth to start cranking out some wins.

The good news for West Forsyth is that their Head Basketball Coach is willing to tweet from the official basketball account to defend any supposed slight directed toward the Wolverines. He will tag the GHSA, your principal, your AD, your guidance counselor, the local sheriff and anyone else necessary to try and curry favor as the holier-than-thou hall monitor of Football Twitter.

The fun part is that he does not seem to realize one of the biggest signs that you missed the joke is when absolutely nobody comes out to support your take, and instead people start telling you the joke clearly went over your head.

Even better, every coach tagged in the original post was together at a wedding this weekend laughing about it.

So here is some free advice:

Focus on basketball. Football Twitter is not for you, and it certainly does not need your help.

Read the room.

Commerce

85-0 over Chestatee. War crime.

North Gwinnett

Had the first load of laundry running by 9:05. Fastest game in the history of the GHSA.

No idea if that is statistically accurate, but spiritually, it absolutely is.

Flowery Branch

Huge win to be crowned the Kings of Hall County after beating North Hall on Friday and Cherokee Bluff a few weeks ago.

At this point, I think it is safe to give you that title without playing West Hall, Johnson, Chestatee and East Hall.

We have seen enough.

Hart County

Huge win over Hebron Christian.

We were worried that, due to your proximity to Coach Gess in South Carolina, he might be able to find a few kids to assist Hebron on Friday.

Fortunately, Hart County was able to find a way to win no matter who showed up.

Huge win for Coach Parsons and the Bulldogs.

Lumpkin County

Gutsy win against a tough East Forsyth team.

Coach Allison would have enjoyed being on the sideline for that one.

Jefferson

Navigated a difficult week and still came away with a huge non-region win over Oconee.

Coach Noland deserves a lot of credit for having his team focused on the task at hand and not worrying about the noise from the outside.

That is much easier said than done.

Jackson County

Huge region win against a vastly improved Mountain View team. Complimentary football and one hell of a first offensive play call of the game. Kudos.

Clarke Central

Still big brother to Cedar Shoals. It keeps getting tighter every year, though, so be careful. Little brother might finally get you next year.

Murray County

4-0 for the first time since 2000. Hats off to the kids and staff for believing in the Power T and making it happen.

The forward pass remains optional.

Rome

Rome is burning.

Franklin County

Suffered their first loss of the season. Anything that could go wrong did. Get it fixed, flush it and get the boys focused for a huge rivalry matchup against Stephens County.

There is no time to sit around feeling sorry for yourselves.

Dawson County

Not the X’s and O’s. It is the Jimmys and Joes.

White County

Chad Bennett is 4-1 after beating Fannin County this week.

Pay the man.

Grayson / Buford

Never in my life have I seen more favorable calls go to a visiting team than I saw on Friday. That was not the main reason Buford won. Buford is an excellent football team.

But Grayson needs to never punt again with their second-string punter. Install a quick kick for heaven’s sake. Go for it on 4th-and-27. Throw an arm punt. Kick it into the stands. Whatever.

Just stop punting.

GPB

So we are just going to continue to have the yellow down-and-distance ticker and not listen to anyone from last year?

I thought GPB was paid for by viewers like me. Well, it is a nightmare watching it.

It somehow makes knowing the down and distance harder than simply not having the graphic at all.

Lee County

Beat OFF.

Milton

Beat OFF.

Johns Creek

Beat OFF.

Lowndes

Rumor is the more non-region wins Coach Carter piles up, the longer and flatter the bill of his hat grows.
