Georgia Coaching Notes
The Morning After: Week 1 Overreactions
Week 1 of Georgia High School Football is in the books, which means it’s time for The Morning After. Fired Coaches delivers completely scientific, slightly biased overreactions from Friday night’s biggest wins, losses, surprises, and “what the hell was that?” moments.

Each week, we’ll provide our initial overreactions to what we saw Friday night. These opinions are backed by science and are the most accurate analysis laced with bias you’ll find in the state—if you disagree, remember: it’s called an OVERREACTION for a reason.
Thomas County Central
You basically told Colquitt to go out to the woods and pick out the switch for Daddy to beat that ass with... and then proceeded to do exactly that.
The group of TCC fans who didn’t think Aidan McPherson would come in and make an impact (we have the receipts) should have to wear a scarlet letter of dumbassery for the rest of the season. Big win. On to the next one.
Hart County
Burn the orange jerseys and never wear them again.
In fact, take the fine and wear the black tops on the road too, and tell whoever the home team is to go kick rocks.
Milton
Somehow, North Cobb looked surprised that Derrick Baker would have a chance to run it in for the game-winning 2-point conversion.
Gritty win, and massive cojones going for the win instead of playing for OT at home.
Scared money don’t make money.
White County
Chad Bennett = Good Football Coach. Side note- it's like when East Hall doesn't have an all-world QB and WR that it is even more imperative they line up correctly on defense.
Stephens County
In the history of Georgia High School Football, has any group of football players from Toccoa, Georgia, ever been beaten by the mountain children in Gilmer?
Get Right Game for both Habersham and Stephens next week.
Carrollton
1 down, 14 more to go.
Rome
I mean, impossible ask for Week 1, but I would love to see how the offense is going to improve and get more creative moving forward. If that isn't in the plan, just let me know and I won't even bother watching.
Houston County
If more kids decide to leave this week, let them. That group was fun to watch last night.
Grayson
0-2.
Good news is you have a bye week. Bad news is you have Langston Hughes in two weeks, and if you can’t fix the issues by then, they are going to take you to the shed like Ol’ Yeller.
Coffee
Was that a forward pass I saw?? Very impressive Week 1 win. Region play will be must-see TV this season.
Franklin County
Might need to purchase more cannon fodder. East Hall up next.
North Forsyth
Had success in the run game but went away from it a little too early at different times last night. Kept battling against a very good Jackson County team. NOFO will be a tough out moving forward.
Jackson County
Best backfield in Northeast Georgia.
Still working to find the right guys up front on the DL, but a gritty Week 1 win for the defending Region 8 champs.
Johns Creek
Scored 8x the amount of points last night (24) that they did in total last season (3).
From Sophie’s Choice to Form B, this was a big first step for the Gladiators.
East Jackson
Defense kept you in it. Just need consistency from the offense and to not shoot yourself in the foot as much. Tough test in the Battle for Apple Valley vs. Commerce.
Jefferson
Too little, too late.
Calhoun is really good, and it’s almost like they knew what they needed to stop in order to be successful.
Next week, throw it 50 times, but make it look like Power every single time.
Colquitt
Obviously a tall Week 1 task.
Coach Calhoun will get them right, and I mean, the QB has never been in that kind of environment before, so he will only get better.
This isn’t South Georgia private-school crowds, and that’s an initial culture shock, I’m sure.
Winder-Barrow
Congratulations to Coach on his first win in the Battle of Barrow.
Had to battle back, but if history tells us anything, it is that Winder finds creative ways to break Apalachee’s heart every year.
