The Morning After: Overreactions — Week 2

Let’s be honest, we already have whispers of people unhappy with their coaches and ready to have them fired.

Just remember, those same people’s votes count just as much as yours in elections, which certainly explains a few things.

With that comforting thought in mind, let’s dive into this week’s overreactions:

Blessed Trinity: Big Win

Big win. Yes, the offering plate might take a hit this week thanks to the updated pregame playlist, but let's be honest, it did its job. Rattled the building, rattled the opponent, and rattled the guy in the white hat, who still looked confused on the final kick.

And the fake punt call? That's the difference-maker. Anybody can dial it up. Blessed Trinity called it and executed it. That's a program playing with confidence right now, and it's going to be tough to beat moving forward.

Circle it on the calendar: the Holy War against the Baptists is going to be must-watch this year.

Habersham Central: Andrew jackson

Take the scrimmage against Lumpkin County, add Friday night’s win over Stephens County, and some might reasonably argue the Raiders’ treatment of Indians this season is rivaled only by Andrew Jackson.

Now let’s see if they can stay consistent with it.

Jackson County: Bye Week Blueprint

The quarterback and running back are problems, and I mean that in the best way. The defensive line is still finding its footing, but a bye week before a real test against North Oconee is the perfect opportunity. Put 21 at the 5-technique and let him set the damn edge.

Dacula: Find a Way

The last three seasons have given us exciting games against Jackson County. At some point, though, you'd like to see this team find creative ways to win those games instead of stumbling into losses. Excited to see where this group goes from here.

Rome: Is Burning

Rinse, and repeat.

Cedar Shoals: Streak Snapped

Huge shoutout to Cedar Shoals for snapping a 22-game losing streak. And this wasn't a gift. Seckinger didn't just roll over and let it happen. Give the kids and coaches their flowers, this is exactly the kind of win that can get a program rolling again.

Commerce: Apple Valley Champs

Commerce won the Battle of Apple Valley over East Jackson. At some point, do the folks who packed up their support and moved over to Banks County come back and apologize for saying this program was dead?

Banks County: Next Test

Great win. East Jackson is next, and that's a tougher matchup than last week's scoreboard suggests. Expect a more difficult pre-snap look this time around.

Lee County: Lockdown

Big win over an excellent opponent. The defense at Lee is about as good as it gets right now. Good luck to anyone lining up against that group this year.

Loganville: Trending Up

You lost, yes. But compared to years past, the way this team is playing is a welcome sight for a roster with real talent. Keep working. It'll start falling your way.

Jefferson: Cash Only

Good things happen when you throw the football, don't they? Put my check in the mail. Make it out to cash.

Madison County: Don't chase points.

You battled, but that pick-six before half was brutal. Just keep running your offense. Don't chase points.

Hart County: 51 Again

Another 51 points for Coach Parsons. MaxPreps is going to need a month to accurately predict their lines.

Coffee: Leveled Up

Big win over Ware. Another example of how much better this team is from last year to this year.

Thomas County Central: Prime Time

The annual "let's get on the Tallahassee local broadcast for marketing purposes" game was a huge success. Well done. On to the next one.

Lowndes and Valdosta: TBD

Until you play someone you didn't pay to play, I've got nothing for you. Won't even bother watching until then. Lee County plays Miami Carol City. You won't even play Warner Robins, and they asked you. Sad!

Tift County: Road Win

2-0, and they found a way to win on the road against a talented Effingham County team. That's the kind of win that means something come playoff calculation time.

Milton: Wake-Up Call

When you don't play with the same level of hate in your heart that you did in Week 1, you get beat. Not by talent, but by teams with better effort and focus and enough talent to beat you when it matters.

Milton doesn't have the luxury of a Lowndes or Valdosta schedule to hide behind. Every week is a measuring stick. Take this one as the wake-up call it is, and turn it into fuel for the rest of the way.
