THE VENT | 10/25 Overreactions From Friday

Milton closes in on a region title, Jackson County eyes perfection, and Region 8-AAA makes no sense. Our Week 9 overreactions are here as Georgia’s playoff picture takes shape.

THE VENT | 10/25 Overreactions From Friday

Morning After: Overreactions — Presented by our friends at Coachingshare.com. It is almost playoff time so make sure you have every resource you need to maximize the time you have with your team. Made by coaches, and for coaches.

The Overreaction, Sunday Edition. Let's get into it.

Milton: 8-Win Ben?

Coach Reaves isn’t just undefeated at the House That Niblett Built. He’s one win away from solidifying the nickname “8-Win Ben” and two wins away from being the all-time winningest coach in Milton history. We might have to find a new nickname.

The field goal before halftime and the blocked punt were the two biggest plays from where I sit. Now, he just has to take care of rival Roswell in Week 10 to win the region. Another shot at revenge from last year.

GHSA Form B Game of the Week

Gainesville: Backfield Watch

Couldn’t ask for a better start, and it felt like you were the aggressor for most of the game. Hate that the quarterback got banged up, but the backup came in and executed well, minus the last play.

If you can get your backfield healthy by the playoffs, that’s a team nobody wants on their side of the bracket.

Cherokee Bluff: 13 Points Away

Thirteen points away from being undefeated. If you can find a way to sneak into the playoffs, that’s a brutal first-round matchup for somebody.

Langston Hughes: Bragging Rights

A homecoming of sorts for a lot of former Creekside coaches and alumni. After years of each side claiming the other was dodging them, this one played out in a way that gives Creekside bragging rights for a while.

Jackson County: Build the Statue

Staring down 10–0 and win No. 100 for Coach Mobbs, who already sits atop the program’s all-time wins list. Build the statue or name a hallway after him already.

Commerce: Overnight Rebuild

Hard-fought game. If you could rebuild your roster overnight like your opponent did, you might have won it. Going to be a dangerous No. 10 seed, that’s for sure.

Habersham: the stats don't lie.

Benji Harrison comes on the show. Benji Harrison wins games. Direct correlation.

Region 8-AAA: Good Luck to All Six of You

I have zero clue what to make of this region.

Elbert beats Lumpkin. Lumpkin loses to Hebron but beats Stephens. Stephens beats Hebron. Franklin beats Morgan. Hart loses to Stephens.

I honestly have no idea who the best team is, but you might get six teams into the playoffs. So, congrats. Good luck to everybody trying to make sense of it.

Rome: Simmer to Keep Warm

NOT BURNING AS MUCH. REALLY JUST A CROCK-POT SETTING ADJUSTMENT FROM SIMMER TO KEEP WARM.

Sophie's Choice Game of the Week

Carrollton: Take as Prescribed

Prescribes 60 points for all opponents, to be taken weekly on Fridays between 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Jefferson: Leaking Oil?

Defense gave up a score for the first time in six games. Should we be concerned they’re leaking oil? Only time will tell. Sad!

Lowndes: Big Brain Move

Coach Adam Carter paid out of his own pocket for students to attend the first away game of the season. First-class move.

He also decided to keep it close, trailing 15–14 heading into the fourth quarter, so people like me would stop saying they aren’t “battle-tested.” Big brain move, Coach.

Valdosta: Joyless Murder-Ball

Kind of playing joyless murder-ball at the moment. Interested to see how you handle some late-game adversity in the coming weeks.

Ola / Warner Robins: Early-Round Nightmares

Love both of these coaches, and this was a fun battle to watch. Two teams I’d hate to draw in the early rounds.

Charlton County: Magic’s Back in the Swamp

Huge win over Mitchell County. Maybe the magic is back down in the swamp?

Closing out the year against Clinch and Irwin will be the true test in year one for this staff, but you have to like where things stand with two games left.

The Scoreboard Show

The Scoreboard Show was once again the No. 1 show in the country on Friday. We loved our time at Gainesville–Milton, and a special shoutout goes to Cal Baker at Baker’s Sports for coming through on short notice with gear for us to wear to the game.

We appreciate Coach Ben Reaves inviting us, the Milton administration for being first class, and the Gainesville leadership, Coach Santavious Bryant, and everyone else who couldn’t have been more welcoming. The good news for all of them: that doesn’t mean we’ll stop stirring the pot. They just know it doesn’t come from a place of malice.

We are always happy to see if we can make it work for our schedules while still being able to broadcast the show after the games, so if you have a game you would like us at please reach out and we will see what we can make work.

We've got to give a shoutout to our show sponsors, because none of this is possible without them: QwikCut, Built To Work USA, and SkyCoach. Each one is an exclusive partner for a reason, and I wouldn't put them in front of you if I didn't feel it was worth your time to have a conversation with them. Don't settle for "it's okay" when alternatives exist that are better, more responsive, and more accountable.

The Week Ahead

This week brings region title games, playoff seeding, and us praying there are no more firings until after the season.

Have something to add or want to call into the show on Fridays? Shoot me a DM on X or send a message through the Tip Line on the website.

We’re also 285 follows away from 10K on X and would love to get there by Friday. We’ll be giving away a hat and some additional Fired Coaches gear from our friends at Baker’s Sports and ProGear. More on how to enter in the next few days.

That’s all I got. /
