Georgia Coaching Notes

The Morning After Overreactions: Week 3

Lee County pulls off a miracle, Blessed Trinity wins the Holy War, Hart County’s offense is apparently in crisis, and everyone needs to relax about Gainesville. Here are the Morning After Overreactions from another wild Friday night of Georgia high school football.

The Morning After Overreactions: Week 3

The Morning After Overreactions - Brought to you buy our friends at CoachingShare.com

Here are your completely reasonable and not-at-all premature Morning After Overreactions:

Gainesville: Everybody Calm Down

Big Red is 0-2. And judging by my DMs and mentions, you'd think Gainesville opened the season against the Little Sisters of the Poor and lost both by 40.

They played Buford and East St. Louis. Your team would probably be 0-2, too. It gets easier once region play starts.

Unfortunately, Gainesville isn't there yet. A pissed off McEachern is up next. Oh, and Gainesville is still without its top two running backs. So everybody relax.

Cowboy Jesus would probably be 0-2 against this opening schedule, too.

Lee County: HOW?

Down 11 with under two minutes to play and somehow Lee County walks out with a 43-32 win over a VERY good Sequoyah team.

That's not a comeback. That's Sequoyah checking the final score this morning to make sure they didn't dream the last two minutes. Huge win.

Now Moultrie is up next because apparently Lee County's schedule was created by someone with a personal vendetta against our friends in Leesburg.

Northside Warner Robins: Coach Boone Buys Himself Some Leeway

Best win of the Coach Boone era at Northside. And in Warner Robins, a win like that buys you something more valuable than money:

Temporary peace from the locals. Enjoy it, Coach. I'm not sure what the exchange rate is, but I'm guessing one big win gets you approximately 6-8 business days.

Grayson: First One

Congratulations to Coach Carswell on his first win as a head coach. With that schedule, there's absolutely no time to sit around celebrating it. But today? Enjoy it. You only get your first one once.

Lambert: I 75 south

Historically, the only reason someone from Forsyth County gets off the interstate in Tifton is to stop at Chick-fil-A on the way to the beach. Not this time.

Lambert went south, got a HUGE win, and presumably grabbed a chicken biscuit for the ride home. Productive trip.

Marietta: Jet Lag Is Officially Gone

Biggest win of the night. I'm guessing the jet lag from Game 1 has officially worn off, because that's the kind of win that will carry some serious PSR weight moving forward.

Whatever Marietta had to figure out after Week 1? Consider it figured out.

Blessed Trinity: THE CATHOLICS HAVE WON THE HOLY WAR

Blessed Trinity: 2026 Holy War Champions. Which means the punishment from last year's loss has officially been lifted: No more full-dunking baptisms for the Catholics.

However, under the terms of the Holy War Treaty, the Baptists must now remove all smoke machines and light shows from Sunday services for the next 365 days.

Monroe Area: QB IS A PROBLEM

That's really the analysis. The QB is a PROBLEM.

The kind of player who gives you a chance every single Friday night regardless of who is standing on the other sideline. Sometimes football isn't complicated.

Get the ball in your best player's hands and let him make everybody else miserable.

Commerce: Pound-for-Pound

Commerce might have the best collection of skill players in this area, pound-for-pound.

I'm not a rankings guy. Most of that stuff is subjective nonsense once you start arguing whether a kid is the 17th- or 24th-best player in his class. What I do know?

Commerce has some elite dudes at the skill positions. Call them whatever number of stars you want. I'll call them a problem, and only further justifies the head scratching offensive approach with these same skill kids last season.

East Jackson: Survive and Advance

Three ugly quarters. Didn't matter. East Jackson found a way to get Coach Henderson his first win as the Eagles' new HFC. That's the good news. White County is on deck, so now you've got to figure out how to put four quarters together.

Celebrate today. Fix everything else Monday.

Lumpkin County: The Boa Constrictor

Lumpkin County football is basically a boa constrictor. Run the football. Suffocate you.

Make you increasingly uncomfortable. Then, right when you start selling out to stop it, take a calculated shot over your head.

If you were still playing in the Mountain Region, I'd probably have you winning the thing. But no. You wanted to go hang out with Hart, Stephens, Morgan, Hebron and Franklin.

Thoughts and prayers moving forward.

North Hall: Let The Big Boys Eat

The defense got enough stops, and North Hall's QB is about as good a pure passer as you'll find in the state when it comes to ball placement and arm talent.

Now I've got one request:

Every once in a while, let some of those offensive linemen go play defensive line. You're defensive coaches will thank you.

West Hall: Sophie Chose You

Sophie chose you. You lived. Chestatee died.

That's how the story goes.

Congratulations, Spartans!

East Hall: Also Chosen By Sophie

Sophie chose East Hall, too. You survived.

But you still managed to give up points before halftime, which is so incredibly on-brand for East Hall that you almost have to respect the commitment to the bit. Never change.

Actually, maybe change that one thing.

Flowery Branch: Footloose vs. The Praise Band

Gritty overtime win against a well-coached Gilmer team.

This was the classic cultural clash: Gilmer representing the "We don't allow dancing inside the city limits" Footloose offense... versus Flowery Branch's non-denominational praise-band spread attack.

New school wins this round.

North Forsyth: Exactly What The Doctor Ordered

After an 0-2 start, this is exactly what North Forsyth needed. Huge win. More importantly, this is the kind of performance that reminds you why I think they've got a legitimate chance to compete for a region title.

Now do it again.

Dacula: Jackson County Beat You Twice

It feels like Dacula let Jackson County beat them twice. Once the QB run was taken away, there wasn't much of an answer ready on the fly. It happens. Flush it. Burn the film. Pretend you never saw Jackson County. Roll into the next one.

Hart County: Offensive Crisis?

Hart County scored only 48 points last night, dropping its season average to approximately 50 points per game.

Cause for concern in Hartwell? Has the offense been figured out? Is it time for difficult conversations? Winder is up next.

Lanier: PICK A PERSONALITY

Huge win. And this is exactly why Lanier can be so head-scratching. You clearly have the dudes. You clearly can play like this. So the question isn't whether Lanier is talented enough. It's: Can you be THIS Lanier every Friday?

Rabun County: The Shaw Revenge Tour

Rabun County has now beaten members of the Shaw family — the family that helped build Rabun into a place where people expect to win football games — in back-to-back weeks. Apparently y'all don't believe in karma. Bold strategy. SAD!

That's all I got. /
